Race Start
The Half Marathon will start at 6:30 a.m. The 5K will start at 6:40 a.m.. The Kid's Run will start at 6:50 a.m.. See the Events/Schedule section for more details.

Key Features

Both races finish in newly renovated downtown area at the same point in the middle of Joplin Street 600 block.  Aid Stations with water and sports drinks.  Portolets at approximately the 4 mile mark, half-way point and at the Joplin Sports Complex (shortly after the 10 mile mark) of the half-marathon. Gu will be available at the half way point point. Lots of spirit, fun, and Midwestern hospitality

Course Information

Beginning and ending in downtown Joplin, runners will enjoy a course that's as varied  our city, with relatively flat stretches and some rolling hills sprinkled in.  You will pass by Joplin’s medical district before winding through some of Joplin’s established neighborhoods, city parks, golf courses, the cities new sports complex and Joplin’s historic Murphysburg area.

On Course Support

Each Aid Station features water and sport drinks. Some may have snacks available. Race officials, medical personnel,  number verification points and direction personnel will be located on or monitoring the course as well.

Traffic control
Traffic control at major intersections will be directed by the Joplin Police Department.  Volunteers will also be located throughout the course.

Medical Support
There will be an emergency station at the Joplin Sports Complex (shortly after the 10 mile mark) and hospital personnel at the finish. In addition, there will be medical support monitoring the course.

Post Race Support
Finishers will have access to a variety of food and beverages. Participants will receive in their goodie bags a voucher allowing them access to the shower facilities at the Joplin YMCA’s downtown facility, located two blocks from the finish line (participants should furnish their own towels, or towels are available from the YMCA for 50 cents).

Post Race Party
Join us at the finish line for a great post race party for runners and their families.  Details are still be worked out, so check back for more details.

Awards & Prizes

Half-Marathon Purse*:  Prize money totaling $6,000 will be awarded to the top three male and top three female finishers in the half-marathon only as follows:

1st-$1500
2nd-$1,000
3rd-$500

*Individual checks will be mailed within 10 working days following receipt of proper tax forms.

In addition to the money awards for the 1st-3rd place overall male and female half-marathon finishers, 1st-3rd place awards will be given out in the following divisions:

19 & Under
20-24, 25-29
30-34, 35-39
40-44, 45-49
50-54, 55-59
60-64, 65-69
70 & Over
Masters (1st only)

5k Awards
No money awards for the 5k.  Awards will be given to the 1st-3rd place overall male and female finishers.  Awards will also be given out in the following divisions:

12 & Under
13-16, 17-19
20-24, 25-29
30-34, 35-39
40-44, 45-49
50-54, 55-59
60-64, 65-69
70 & Over
Masters (1st only)

Awards in the 5k will be presented at 8:15 AM near the finish line. Stick around, watch the half marathon winners finish and then pick up your award.

A Note About Official Times for Prizes and Awards: The results for the half-marathon, including determination of cash prizes, will be based on the actual order of finish (“gun time”).  Results determining awards in the 5k will be based on “chip time.”

There will be no duplication of trophies or plaque awards.

Course Traffic Control Closing
5k
Officially, traffic control for the 5k course will end after one hour.  .  Once traffic control ceases, participants should proceed at their own risk. Volunteers will continue to monitor participants’ progress along the course.

Half-marathon
Officially, the half-marathon course will be open for three and one-half hours after the official start time (or adjusted if a late start). However, note that traffic control by the Joplin Police Department, the use of cones and the operation of Aid Stations will cease in stages along the course (some before 10:00 a.m) as the event progresses.  Once traffic control ceases, participants should proceed at their own risk. Volunteers will continue to monitor participants’ progress along the course.

The Finish Line will operate until 10:00 a.m. Official times will be recorded, and medals will be distributed until this time.

Historical Temperatures for Joplin in the first week of June:
Average high - 84 degrees F (Record high of 102 degrees F in 1953)
Average low - 63 degrees F (Record low of 48 degrees F in 1985)
Mean - 74 degrees F

What’s Prohibited: (noncompliance with the following may result in immediate disqualification): Unregistered runners, unauthorized vehicles, bicycles, roller skates, roller blades, skateboards, strollers, baby-joggers, and runners with pets are strictly prohibited to assure runner safety and to comply with liability insurance requirements.
Under USATF Rule 144.3b, the wearing of headphones and other listening devices (such as Ipods) is prohibited while on the race course.
Finally, any type of support or unauthorized pacing will not be allowed.
